who, what, when, where, why, and how?

You got those questions? We have (some) answers....

who

media girl is a community of women ... including you.

what

mediagirl.org is community of, by and for women who
create, produce, write, direct, grind, slave away and/or just are
interested in the media industry and craft. There are many places online to talk about media or politics or art (or media and politics
and art). However, mediagirl.org is a place created
for women, a place to connect, rant, share, commiserate, bitch, scream,
laugh, cry, or just be a little bit silly.

We invite you to join, blog, post comments, and otherwise help us build a community of support, connection and sharing.

We could try to offer more detailed descriptions of features here, but perhaps it would be better if you just poked around and discovered them for yourself. It's not rocket science, after all.

when

Since Friday, November 12th, 2004. (Actually, it was the 11th, but our webmistress made a goof that scrambled the database and we had to start over.)

where

Erm....right here, on your computer screen. If you want to know where our servers are, we use a fabulous web hosting service [updated] running Linux and Apache (we love open source).

why

  1. Because we can.
  2. Because we want to.
  3. Because we see a need.
  4. Because we feel like it.
  5. Just because.
  6. Why not?

how

We're doing this ourselves, building on open-source code, designing, laying out, moderating and contributing in our spare time (of which there doesn't seem to be enough). We're sandal-strapping this on our own, out of our own wallets. If you wanted to pitch in, donation would really really help! [Update: a donation button is in the left sidebar.]

If you're a bottom-line-type of girl, you will want to read the privacy policy and terms of service. If you have questions, go to the faq section to post a question and read answers to others.

Thanks for joining!

The link has been changed on my blog to this new site.

Good luck with the site...I tried something like this two years ago and it was a big bummer...I'll tell you the details in email. Drop me a line.
