CBS butchers Thanksgiving Day Parade
Allow me a curmudgeonly moment here to kvetch a bit about the CBS coverage ... and life in the age of incompetence.
First of all, they seemed to have more commercials than parade. Sometimes they went from commercials to yakking hosts and then straight back to commercials.
But even worse, their camera coverage of the parade was awful and, I'm sorry, not up to national broadcast standards. Despite the overcast day, which provides optimal conditions for beautiful video color, they had several angles that were overexposed, with blown-out highlights. This was the kind of camera work that would get you fired from the local news, and here it is on a national network broadcast showcasing what is supposed to be eye candy.
Is competence too much to ask these days? Maybe they're afraid that competence constitutes liberal media bias.
After all, competent science teaching, sans intelligent design, is considered too liberal.
University professors who actually know the subjects they teach and don't pander to ignorant preconceptions are considered too liberal.
Press coverage that actually does fact-checking is considered too liberal.
And, of course, demanding accountability of government officials is considered too liberal.
Yes, it seems that competence is too liberal these days. But don't worry, at least conservatives will keep you from entering into a gay marriage. Don't you feel better?
