"Inside the Blogs" moment

media girl's picture

mediagirl.org got its 15 seconds of fame today on CNN's Inside the Blogs. I confess that, when I saw the clip, I failed to respond with dignity. No, I wooped and danced around waving my arms in the air like an idiot (which I think only confirmed my cat's judgement of my sanity).

I wish I saw it live, but I don't have time to watch cable news all day (and all the commercials drive me up the wall). Instead, I got a heads up via the feedback contact form here from Trey at Jackson's Junction, which I thought was a very nice gesture.

He also has streaming video of the clip.

Yours truly comes about a minute in -- not that there's anything to see. They show the site (which, unless you're reading this via RSS or an aggregator like FeministBlogs, you're looking at right now) and read a bit from this post (which you may or may not have thought had anything interesting or particularly insightful to offer). But heck, to hear "media girl" over the airwaves (even if only vicariously via a web stream) holds a certain thrill for this girl who, until late last year blogged about anything but politics and who, not six months ago, was overjoyed to get a whole dozen visitors in one day on the old blogger site.

I have to tell you, I'm also a bit relieved that they chose one of my more considered paragraphs. I don't think I had any typos or embarrassingly flagrant grammatical errors.

An interesting sidenote: It seems that within the blogosphere, anyway, other blogs have much more of an impact on one's traffic than a cable news show. Looking at the stats, I can't see any visitor spike on StatCounter or SiteMeter (who somehow manage to come up with different statistics day by day). It's probably safe to say that CNN is no Slashdot.

Still, it's nice to know that someone's reading and finding something worth mentioning now and then. Sometimes it feels like I'm shouting into the void.

Did I just say that the MSM is not a void? :o

Though it's still puzzling what the role of dark matter is in the Corporate Mediaverse....

Congratulations on making a chip in the CNN veneer-mobile.
